My future goals are based on my strong interests in STEM topics. While in high school I took as many Engineering, Math, Physics and Chemistry classes as I could. I was a founding member of my school’s chapter of the Technology Student Association, along with being a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. I was also very involved with FIRST Robotics teams all four years of high school. I participated in the Summer Ventures program offered by the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics taking the Mathematical Evolutions course and attended a week long Additive Engineering workshop through NC State’s Engineering Summer Programs.
I attend North Carolina State University pursuing my goal of becoming a Mechanical Engineer. I will focus my studies on Additive Manufacturing, and I hope to participate in research opportunities at NCSU’s Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL). My long term plans are to earn a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Engineering. I am hopeful that my career as an Engineer will provide me opportunities to help innovate and advance Additive Manufacturing technology while making a positive contribution to society.
I am extremely grateful to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for their financial assistance as I pursue my goals and aspirations. The Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr. and Roger W. Morrison Scholarships have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school which is learning. I hope that one day I will be able to help future students achieve their goals just as the CFWNC has helped me.
