Graduating seniors of Charles D. Owen High School (Buncombe County), Madison High School (Madison County), or McDowell High School (McDowell County) who are planning to attend a college or university in North Carolina or Tennessee and intend to study forestry management or environmental science.

Residents of the 18 counties of Western North Carolina who have chosen funeral service as a career path.

High school junior women who reside in Buncombe County and attend a public or private high school in Buncombe County, the NC School of Science and Mathematics, or the UNC School of the Arts.

Graduating seniors of Mountain Heritage High School (Yancey County).

Residents of the 18 westernmost counties who are graduating seniors of a WNC public or private high school or certified home school, and who are relatives of active duty, decorated Vietnam Veterans.

Eligible employees of Mountain Community Health Partnership, Incorporated, a North Carolina non-profit corporation, who desire to further their education in health-related services.

Graduating seniors of Mitchell High School (Mitchell County). Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Employees of Silver-Line and children and grandchildren of Silver-Line employees who have completed one year of service at the time of application.
