Guidelines and Information

Description

The purpose of the Forward Fund is to support the charitable purposes of organizations and municipalities impacted by the Pactiv Evergreen paper mill closure. Grant awards will focus on collaborative economic-recovery programs and projects in the Town of Canton, Haywood County and other parts of CFWNC’s region.

Eligibility of Applicants

  • Organizations must be community-based or regional nonprofits designated by the IRS as tax-exempt under 501(c)(3), faith-based organizations, or public agencies addressing the local or regional economic effects of the mill’s closure.
  • Organizations must be located in and serving the Qualla Boundary or one of the following counties in Western North Carolina: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, or Yancey.
  • Priority will be given to areas most significantly affected.

Deadlines and Dates

The Foundation will consider Forward Fund grant applications by invitation until all available funds have been awarded or until the grant program terminates.

What We Do Not Fund

The Foundation will not award grants for sectarian religious purposes; partisan political purposes; endowment funds; ongoing operational costs; deficit funding; debt retirement; festivals or one-time events such as exhibits, performances, or fundraisers; or expenses incurred before grants are awarded.

Guideline Modifications

The Foundation may modify these guidelines or make exceptions to them at its sole discretion.
