Transylvania Endowment Awards Grants Totaling $62,815

(April 2019) – The Transylvania Endowment awarded eleven grants totaling $62,815 to nonprofits serving Transylvania County, bringing the total amount of grantmaking to more than $1 million.

The 2019 grants include:

Brevard Music Center was awarded $3,500 to support a community concert and outreach program for economically disadvantaged young people and adults as part of the 2019 Summer Festival.

Brevard Philharmonic was awarded $6,000 for expansion of the Music in the Schools Program.

Davidson River School was awarded $6,035 for a two-day Reconnect for Resilience training.

Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding and Education was awarded $4,370 to expand the Say Whoa to Bullying program.

Muddy Sneakers was awarded $5,000 for general support of its day camp.

Neighbors in Ministry/Rise & Shine was awarded $8,000 to continue its collaborative Sexual, Verbal and Physical Abuse Prevention Skills Initiative.

North Toxaway Baptist Church/Food Bank was awarded $2,500 for food and operation costs.

Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute was awarded $7,910 to fund a comprehensive initiative to provide hands-on experiential learning.

Pisgah Legal Services was awarded $8,500 to provide free civil legal assistance and advocacy to low-income residents in Transylvania County.

Smart Start of Transylvania County was awarded $5,000 to implement the Jump Start to Kindergarten program.

Transylvania Christian Ministry was awarded $6,000 to establish a designated fund to cover large-expense emergency repairs for low income, elderly neighbors.

"Through the support of friends and neighbors, the Endowment has now been able to award more than $1 million to a wide variety of nonprofits and projects," said Advisory Board Chair Scott Latell. "We are very grateful to everyone who has helped to build a permanent charitable resource and to meet this milestone for Transylvania County. We always welcome additional gifts that enable us to support more local programs with local dollars."

In 1998, local people established the Endowment to build permanent charitable capital to support the ever-changing needs and opportunities in Transylvania County. In addition to the Endowment, the following CFWNC funds support grantmaking in Transylvania County: Richard G. Adamson Memorial Fund, Bobby Orr Memorial Fund for Transylvania County Sheriff's Department, Karen Wilde Memorial Fund for Brevard Police Department, Lake Toxaway Charities Endowment Fund, My Brother's Keeper Fund, Burlingame Charitable Fund, Duncan-Bicknell Endowment Fund and Transylvania Directors' Fund.

The local volunteer Advisory Board works to raise awareness of the Transylvania Endowment and to build assets for the future.
