Transylvania Endowment Awards Grants Totaling $48,500

(April 2022) – The Transylvania Endowment awarded nine grants totaling $48,500 to nonprofits serving Transylvania County in its recent grant cycle. The Transylvania Endowment, in partnership with The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC), has awarded grants totaling $1,169,575.

“Transylvania County nonprofits undertake important, front-line work in our community and have addressed numerous challenges over the last two years,” said Advisory Board Chair John D. Goins. “These organizations see a need and work to address it. We are grateful to our donors who have built a permanent charitable resource to support local programs with local dollars.”

The 2022 grants are:

$3,500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina to continue its mentorship program.

$5,000 to The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County to support its year-round mentoring program.

$7,000 to The Haven of Transylvania County toward the salary of a Case Manager to assist clients in developing a budget, applying for housing and seeking employment and to ensure that clients access necessary services to become housed and sustain themselves.

$7,000 to Isaac Homes Youth Shelter to support a part-time Center Director.

$5,000 to Meals on Wheels of Brevard to purchase food for meals for homebound seniors.

$1,000 to Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte to provide lodging for Transylvania County families.

$6,000 to Smart Start of Transylvania County to support one cohort of Family, Friend & Neighbor early care providers in Transylvania County.

$7,000 to Transylvania Christian Ministry to subscribe to Simon Solutions Charity Tracker database, a tool that allows county nonprofits to coordinate client services.

$7,000 to Transylvania Habitat for Humanity to assist in clearing more than eight acres as the site for ten new homes.

In 1998, local people established the Endowment as a permanent charitable fund to meet local needs. Gifts added to the Endowment’s principal are preserved and invested, while grants from the Endowment support nonprofits in Transylvania County. In addition to the Endowment, the following CFWNC funds support grantmaking in Transylvania County: Richard G. Adamson Memorial Fund, Bobby Orr Memorial Fund for Transylvania County Sheriff's Department, Duncan-Bicknell Endowment Fund, Karen Wilde Memorial Fund for Brevard Police Department, Lake Toxaway Charities Endowment Fund, My Brother's Keeper Fund, Burlingame Charitable Fund, and Holbrook-Nichols Transylvania Housing Assistance Fund.
