Rutherford County Endowment Awards $84,670 in Grants

(April 2022) The Rutherford County Endowment awarded thirteen grants totaling $84,670 to Rutherford County nonprofits in its recent grant cycle. The Endowment, in partnership with CFWNC, has awarded grants totaling $1,661,363.

“Rutherford County nonprofits undertake important, front-line work in our community and have addressed numerous challenges over the last two years,” said Advisory Board Chair Judy Toney. “These organizations see a need and work to address it. We are grateful to our donors who have built a permanent charitable resource to support local programs with local dollars.”

The 2022 grants are:

$8,000 to Basics Christian Ministries for building repair, technology and a water heater for its building that houses services for low-income and homeless people.

$4,000 to Blue Ridge Hope to rent a building for its afterschool programs.

$2,500 to Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas to support children with cancer and their families by assisting with medical treatment and travel expenses.

$2,500 to Community Pet Center to provide free vaccines and microchips for pets of low-income families.

$10,000 to Grahamtown Team to refurbish and sell houses to fund services for low-income people.

$7,670 to Hope Center of Rutherford County to repair a floor in a building used for transitional housing.

$5,000 to Out Of The Ashes to support homeless shelter operations.

$5,000 to Pisgah Legal Services to provide legal services to protect children.

$2,500 to Rutherford County/NC Cooperative Extension for a youth gardening program.

$10,000 to Rutherford Housing Partnership to provide home repair services for low-income people.

$10,000 to Salem United Methodist Church/Washburn Community Outreach Center to correct a drainage problem at its food distribution center.

$7,500 to Thrive to provide housing and support services for homeless people.

$10,000 to The Source Ministries/The Source Outreach Center to provide food, hygiene products, baby supplies, and household items to the community through a weekly pantry and delivery service.

In 1996, local residents established the Rutherford County Endowment as a permanent charitable endowment to meet local needs. Gifts added to the Fund’s principal are preserved and invested, while grants from the Fund support nonprofits in Rutherford County.
