Cashiers Community Fund Awards Grants Totaling $147,500

(August 2018) The Cashiers Community Fund is pleased to announce $147,500 in grants to nonprofits serving Cashiers and the surrounding region. Since 1994, the Cashiers Community Fund has awarded $1,332,785 to projects serving the Cashiers community.

"For 26 years, the Cashiers Community Fund has been partnering with many generous people and The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina to build a permanent charitable resource for the Cashiers region," said Advisory Board Chair T. Wayne Davis. "The Fund supports broad community needs, and we are here to help the organizations that benefit our friends and neighbors. Anyone can contribute and know that their donation will benefit the Cashiers region, now and forever."

The recent grants include:

Animal Friends for Life (dba Friends for Life Forever Farm) was awarded $5,000 to provide equipment, facility upgrades, and medical support for senior and special needs animals at the sanctuary.


Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, Inc. was awarded $10,000 for salary for the staff dentist to increase access to free dental health care.

Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau was awarded $10,000 to provide staff and material support for its Academic Success programming.

Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society was awarded $10,000 for its low-cost or free spay/neuter program.

Community Care Clinic of Cashiers-Highlands was awarded $10,000 for general support of its free health care services to uninsured, low income residents.

Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry Inc. was awarded $8,000 to purchase food for distribution to those in need.

Friends of Panthertown was awarded $10,000 for staff and material support to coordinate volunteers who will maintain, protect and improve recreational opportunities in Panthertown Valley.

Hampton School Inc. was awarded $10,000 for operating costs for an early childcare program serving children under the age of three.

Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust was awarded $6,500 to support the Kids in Nature Program.

Hospice House Foundation of WNC was awarded $10,000 to construct a hospice inpatient facility in Franklin, NC.

Jackson County Parks and Recreation was awarded $10,000 to complete the Cashiers/Glenville Recreation Center walking trail.

ML Performing Arts Center was awarded $10,000 for the Youth Theater program, which serves schools in Highlands and Cashiers.

Mountain Youth Charities/Junior Appalachian Musicians - Blue Ridge was awarded $8,000 for operating costs of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Blue Ridge chapter.

Summit Charter School was awarded $10,000 to complete the Chromebooks Initiative and continue the ELL Rosetta Stone Program.

The Bascom was awarded $10,000 for the Cashiers Community Engagement and Outreach Initiative, a project aimed to deliver quality arts education and experiences to residents of Jackson County.

The Village Green was awarded $10,000 toward the construction of a cultural events and community activities facility.

The local volunteer Advisory Board works to raise awareness of the Cashiers Community Fund and to build assets for the future. The board members are Lisa Bates, Jeanne Builder, T. Wayne Davis, Shannon Hargrove, Carol Hunter, Harriet Karro, Jochen Lucke, Sarah Nelson, Harry Phillips, Linda Quick, Jeff Sikes, Toby Summerour and Barbara Tickle. The Cashiers Community Fund supports projects improving the quality of life in greater Cashiers and benefitting the broad community and its residents. CCF provides grants between $2,500-$10,000 to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for charitable purposes, including programmatic needs, capital campaigns and operating expenses.
