(May 2021) – Biltmore Lake Charitable Fund at The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) recently awarded nine grants totaling $65,986. The Biltmore Lake Charitable Fund was established to improve the quality of life in the Enka-Candler community by supporting education, economic development, health care and community development projects. With these grants, total grantmaking since 2005 is $1,157,690.
Recent grants are:
$5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina for a mentoring program for under-resourced youth.
$10,000 to Candler Elementary School for decodable books that enhance reading skills for K-2 students.
$7,598 to Enka High School to purchase a sound system for the auditorium.
$5,000 to Enka Intermediate School for commercial picnic tables to enhance the school's outdoor learning space.
$5,000 to Guardian ad Litem Association of Buncombe County for camp and enrichment activities for children under DSS care.
$7,500 to Helpmate to provide emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors.
$10,000 to Hominy Valley Elementary School for decodable books that enhance reading skills for K-2 students.
$10,000 to Pisgah Elementary School for digital educational resources that will provide rigorous instruction and practice opportunities for K-4 students.
$5,888 to Sand Hill - Venable Elementary School to support a science program in collaboration with Asheville Museum of Science for K-5 students.
