Each year grants are made from these funds that align with their stated purposes. Generosity multiplied.
Fund for Western North Carolina addresses broad needs in 18 counties of WNC, including the Qualla Boundary. Having unrestricted funds to direct toward projects and issues is key to effectrive and strategic grantmaking as needs change over time.
Fund for Human Services supports grants meeting basic needs. Addressing the needs of vulnerable people is a key focus of our work, and the grants typically benefit from generous co-investment from fundholders and funding partners.
Fund for Animal Welfare focuses on rescue and adoption programs, spay/neuter services, care for injured or orphaned wildlife, and prevention of cruelty to animals.
Fund for the Arts makes grants for the visual and performing arts and programs that expand or improve cultural offerings in the region. CFWNC awards small operating grants to cultural organizations on a rotating schedule. Unrestricted support, especially to smaller and more rural nonprofits, can be stabilizing and has allowed more giving in some counties.
Fund for the Environment supports preservation and protection for natural resources and scenic spaces. CFWNC works closely with a dedicated network of nonprofits working in land and water conservation and protection, work that is critical to the recreational economy and the well-being of communities.
Fund for Education improves educational opportunities in public schools. Funds are awarded through Focus Area and Learning Links grants.
Fund for Health improves access to quality health care.
Fund for Strong Communities improves our region’s civic and economic vitality with a specific emphasis on issues of social justice and equity.
The Women’s Fund addresses the unmet needs of women and girls. Grants are awarded through the Women for Women grant program.
Fund for Scholarships supports scholarships for students across Western North Carolina. Scholarship Directory
An endowment provides annual income for Women for Women that supports stability and sustainability for the Women for Women giving circle. It helps protect finances from changes in the economy and fluctuations in membership. Additionally, it provides a giving option for members and friends to make donations at any time and any level during the year or to leave a bequest or make memorial gifts.
