About Grants

Grants are made to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and public agencies serving the following 18 counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey and including the Qualla Boundary.

Through a careful review process, the Foundation's staff and board work together to award grants that improve the lives of people and communities in Western North Carolina and strengthen the nonprofit sector that serves them. In simple terms, CFWNC grants are an investment in the future of our region.

Between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, in partnership with fundholders, donors and affiliates, CFWNC facilitated $69 million in grants and scholarships.

Electronic Grant Payments

CFWNC makes grant payments and distributions via an electronic payment system to ensure funds are transferred securely and in a timely manner. To receive a grant payment, you will need to complete and submit an Electronic Fund Transfer Authorization Form and a voided check. You can submit this information through our secure online portal or by mail. For information about the electronic grant payments review these FAQs.
