The Tri-County Healthcare Education Scholarship - Dr. Jeffrey Larson Award provides scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors from Tri-County Early College, Murphy High School and Hayesville High School who will attend an accredited college or vocational school to prepare for a profession in the healthcare field.
Awards are given in memory of Dr. Jeffrey Larson, a graduate of Mountain Brook High School in Alabama. Dr. Larson later went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Larson was board certified in both internal and geriatric medicine and worked at Peachtree Internal Medicine in Murphy, NC for 23 years.

Eligibility
Scholarships, renewable for three more years, are available to graduating high school seniors of Tri-County Early College, Murphy High School and Hayesville High School.
Students must plan to attend an accredited not-for-profit vocational school, college or university to study a healthcare-related field. To maintain the award for subsequent years, the student must continue a focus on healthcare education and must be enrolled full time.
CFWNC ensures that all scholarship recipients are selected on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis and that selections are based on specific guidelines and criteria for each fund.
Selection Criteria
Preference will be given to students demonstrating the following in order of importance:
• Grade point average
• Academic achievement
• Participation in extracurricular activities, community service and/or work experience
• Financial need
• Although it is not required for application, dependents of employees of Murphy Medical Center, Inc., dba Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital, will be given added consideration should they meet the above criteria.
