Rotary Club of Asheville Harry R. Morrill Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Asheville established the Harry R. Morrill scholarship to help meritorious students and encourage scholarship among high school seniors. The program is open to applicants whose primary residence is in Buncombe County, and who are seniors enrolled in public or private high schools within Buncombe County or the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) or the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA).

Each year, income from this fund is made available for distribution to the selected high school seniors. The number of awards and total dollar amount of the awards varies based on fund performance.

Eligibility

Open to applicants with superior academics, leadership and community service, whose primary residence is in Buncombe County, and who are seniors in public or private high schools in Buncombe County or the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) or the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA).

The Desired Applicant Qualities, in order of importance, include: superior academic achievement/potential and a desire to learn; demonstrated leadership qualities; community service, extracurricular activities and/or work experience; and a positive personal outlook.

CFWNC ensures that all scholarship recipients are selected on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis and that selections are based on specific guidelines and criteria for each fund.

  • Community service/extracurricular activities/work experience
  • Positive personal outlook

The student's academic record will be highly important. As a guide, recipients will on average have placed in the top 5% of their class, earned a 4.0+ (weighted) GPA, and been among the highest scorers on their SATs. The successful candidate will also be an exceptional leader, both in school and the community at large.
