This memorial scholarship was established by Walker's family to honor the life and achievements of this outstanding young man. It is further established to help a graduate of Asheville High School pursue an education in film, video production, visual or performing arts. Students from Asheville High who attend the North Carolina School of the Arts are also eligible to apply. Walker would have received his diploma from Asheville High School on June 6, 1994, but he died just two days earlier of complications from congenital heart disease. He is remembered as a wonderful young man, full of charm and wit, and passionate in his pursuit of film studies. His courage and determination in the face of physical challenges were inspirational; his wisdom and faith earned him great respect and admiration from his family and friends of all ages.
