Following Helene, Baptists on Mission received an Emergency and Disaster Response Fund grant of $1.5 million to support the operating costs of five rebuild sites in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Mitchell and Yancey counties. The sites allow Baptists on Mission to mobilize, house, and host volunteers that will repair and reconstruct homes that were damaged by the hurricane. As of April 21, 875 rebuilds had been completed, 200 rebuilds are in progress, and one new home has been completed with 19 more underway. The organization has made a long-term commitment to the region and plans to remain for three to five years. There are 700 homes on the waiting list.
