(June 27, 2025) The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) distributed four grants totaling $1,035,000 this week to nonprofits providing hurricane recovery services in Western North Carolina. With these awards, the total amount awarded from the Emergency and Disaster Response Fund (EDRF) since October 7 is $35,432,415.
Grants awarded are:
$850,000* to Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders for site development costs associated with developing a 10-acre tract of land for 56 new, affordable homes within the town limits of Black Mountain under a community land trust model, ensuring permanent affordability. Priority ownership for these homes will be low-income homeowners and renters whose previous homesites are not viable for rebuilding post Helene.
$100,000 to Gateway Wellness Foundation for Hurricane Helene-related disaster relief home repair and rebuild projects in McDowell County.
$50,000 to Penland School of Craft for the renovation of the water system damaged by Hurricane Helene.
$35,000 to RiverLink for small-scale streambank repairs on privately-owned properties impacted by Hurricane Helene.
*This award is contingent on the organization’s satisfaction of certain requirements related to the acquisition of the property and the structure of the community land trust.
