(May 27, 2025) The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) distributed five grants totaling $969,131 last week to nonprofits providing hurricane recovery services in Western North Carolina. With these awards, the total amount awarded from the Emergency and Disaster Response Fund (EDRF) since October 7 is $33,801,907.
Grants awarded are:
$494,131 to Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity to rebuild its administrative facility, which was flooded during Hurricane Helene.
$100,000 to Grace Community Church of McDowell County to support recovery, repairing and rebuilding housing for people affected by Hurricane Helene.
$250,000 to Mountain Housing Opportunities to provide home repair to homeowners sustaining storm damage in Buncombe, Madison, McDowell, Yancey and Rutherford counties, wraparound services to help disaster-impacted MHO residents, and for repairs at two MHO-owned properties.
$75,000 to The Beacon Network to recruit and coordinate volunteers for waterway clean-up and restoration in Yancey, Mitchell and Avery counties.
$50,000 to Town of Black Mountain to install an agricultural-capacity well and hydration system for a community garden that was contaminated by flood waters.
“We are so grateful for the ongoing support of CFWNC,” said Andy Barnett, Chief Executive Officer, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. “This incredible gift will enable us to hire a commercial construction firm to complete post-storm renovations to our administrative office, which has been operating at reduced capacity with a temporary CO. ‘Bringing people together’ is central to our mission, but the current state of our facility has made that difficult. We look forward to again having a place where our staff can effectively work and we can welcome the community.”
If you wish to support aid to those affected by the storm, you can donate online. Administrative fees are waived so that every dollar goes directly to assistance.
