Overview

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, founded in 1978, is a public charity with a mission to expand philanthropy in the eighteen counties of Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. The Foundation manages charitable funds for individuals, corporations and charitable organizations, and makes grants toward the region’s pressing needs and promising opportunities.

Position Description

The Leadership Associate provides administrative support for the President/CEO with some support for the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Communications, including preparation of meeting materials, scheduling meetings, and other duties as assigned. The Leadership Associate has significant contact with Foundation Board Members and donors and must have excellent customer service abilities. The successful applicant must have strong communication skills, be efficient, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This is a salaried position that reports directly to the President/CEO.

Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the President/CEO including assisting with correspondence, meeting scheduling and preparation.
  • Support the President/CEO in maintaining calendar and schedule.
  • Follow up on action items from meetings, conversations, and correspondences providing timely status updates.
  • Greet donors, guests and visitors for the President/CEO.
  • Answer, screen and route phone calls to the President/CEO as appropriate. Provide back up support in answering the Foundation's main line and direct calls accordingly.

    Board Management Support

    • Support the President with all Board administrative matters including Board and Committee meeting coordination, taking minutes, and Board orientation.
    • Plan and execute logistics of Board meetings and events including room set-up, meals/catering and audio/video/presentation needs.
    • Organize presentation and meeting materials.
    • Ensure appropriate documentation of Board actions.
    • Board meetings and events occur outside of normal working hours.

    Other Duties

    • Plan and execute Board appreciation events.
    • Support Communications Director and Chief Operating Officer with specific projects and tasks.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Desired Experience & Knowledge

    • Excellent computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all Foundation matters.
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and volunteers.
    • Ability to work and think independently and with good judgement.
    • Flexibility and ability to adjust activities and priorities and take on new responsibilities. Ability to learn quickly.
    • Willingness to travel within Western North Carolina.
    • Professional attitude toward work, commitment to the Foundation’s goals and mission.
    • Willingness to accept supervision.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift and carry objects of a minimum of 15 pounds in weight, occasionally lifting overhead. Job duties require approximately 85% sitting/typing, and 15% standing/walking. Physical requirements will vary depending upon the specific duties to be accomplished.

    Compensation

    Starting salary range for this position is $45,000 - $50,000. Compensation will be commensurate with skill level and experience with an annual performance and salary review. Foundation employees participate in a Paid Time Off accrual system initially equivalent to 25 days off per year representing vacation and sick time, plus eight additional paid holidays and paid parental/family leave. CFWNC offers participation in group health, dental, vision and retirement plans to eligible employees. Work location is primarily at CFWNC’s office, however occasional remote work is possible.
