Fields of Hope

Mars Hill, NC

The Mars Hill Baptist Church was awarded a Recession Response grant of $8000 for the Fields of Hope community garden.   The garden supplies fresh produce to food pantries in Madison, Buncombe and Yancey counties.   With labor contributed by more than 300 volunteers, the garden produced 21 tons of vegetables last year contributing to 168,000 meals.   This year they are seeking to double their production of squash, potatoes, beans, corn, cabbage and sweet potatoes.   Volunteers include Girl Scout troops, youth groups, church members, students, residents and more.
